Did you have to type so much in one go? Once again someone took my idea for a thread >_< from now on i'll post them as soon as i come with them. I wasn't sure about this one because we have the music thread but i guess it dosen't matter anymore. But can i make a suggestion? Assuming it dosen't get deleted why don't we dedicate this thread to all music from anime? I think OST's and ending themes should be included since we're already talking about openings.
Well I thought that would be way to specific for the music thread, and would go under after a short time anyway, so why not start a new topic? And I feared that Stahn would scold me due to double postings if I tried to cut it into more comments...
About your suggestions, I'm totally fine with the endings, but careful about the OST's, because I would like to focus on both the music AND the visual material that goes along with it. I guess it is totally fine when you can link certain moments/scenes in animes to certain OST's.
...On second thought, If you can talk about just the music as well, I thought THAT would be what the music thread was for...
Oh, and also OST's, Openings and Endings from videogames are okay as well, because many of them are awesome, if you have a certain scene/area/bossfight to link it to.

Yes! He agrees! Now as for the openings i'm not sure what my absolute favorite is but out of all of the anime openings that i've seen this week Chrono Crusade's is the best by far.
And btw you're right, the first One Piece opening brings out the adventurer inside of me! ^w^

That's what the Music thread is for. Whether users decide to actually use it for that is another matter. I'm willing to let this thread slide for now since it targets a specific topic (Anime OPs, though you could probably extend to EDs and the actual animations for them as well).ecchifan96 said:

I could very well simply tell you to post this in the Music thread as well, but considering where and how I can see this thread forking/extending towards (as mentioned in the previous paragraph), I can let it slide.
Thank you Stahn, as always your kindness knows no bounds.
Okay my first comment was pretty long, so short form:
Thread is about your favorite Anime OP, that means Music + Animation, and what feelings and emotions arise from that combination.
Exceptions and options are listed above. (Don't worry, in the shorter comment)

Ok, now let's get this thread going. Remember how back in the old days almost everytime an anime was dubbed people felt the opening needed to be changed? I'm sure most of us are glad those days are over. Anyway one of the dubbed openings i'll never forget is the first Rurouni Kenshin opening because it's one of the few english openings i've seen that is exactly like the original japanese.
I'd say I have 3 favourite anime openings that I just love to listen to at any given moment.
Death Note secound opening.
Soul Eater first opening.
Dragon Ball Z 'nough said.

You my freind have good taste :3 the Soul Eater opening is a likely candidate to be my all time favorite, it's one hell of a ride that's for sure. But don't forget that explosive ending sequence. It's unorthodox because an ending theme is supposed to be mellow, it's the opening that should get you hyped. But you know that's the reason i love that ending X3 and the Dragonball Z theme will remain with me always.
Welcome to the NHK
Spice and Wolf
Sketchbook Full Colors Boring opening but I love the song.
And the opening for season 1 and 2 of Working!. I'd link them but there are too many parodies and remixes on youtube and I can't tell what's the original since my computer has no sound.

With the exception of pokemon i haven't watched any recent anime in a while but of the few openings that are still fresh in my memory this is one of my favorites.
Season one ending of naruto Wind
It has some special meaning to me due to events of my past and all so I can't see myself giving up first place to any other music from anime to this one. If I did it would probably be the season 10 ending instead. It's got speed, need I say more?
There are tons of other songs and pieces I have listened to but they just didn't seem to have that kind of impact for me.
(Does this count? You did say openings :/)
Hmm read / skimmed the wall too fast I just noticed.
It seems you wanted to know the specific associations. Well Wind for me is about freedom/liberty of spirit (not law!) and growth. S10 ending just makes me feel more lively.
naughty secrets
I have no idea how that random link got there , and it definitelydoes not have over 9000 impact on me! *cough* Suffice it to say that's "ball up in the corner" kind of strong, although the youtube versions are terribad.

Here we can talk about ending themes and OST's as well as openings ;3Mnessie said:

Well thanks Mnessie comments like that where what I had in mind while creating the thread.
To other users, it would be nice (but not necessary) if you could add just one sentence why this certain opening/ending/OST is your favorite, not just stating the songs.
And lastly please don't set a link without stating the name of the song, youtube is kind of stingy with music rights in some country, so some videos (like yours ecchifan96) could be blocked in certain countries (like mine ^^).

Will do ^_~ sorry about that Manu.
Yes, but there were good ones. The sixth opening to One Piece was dubbed in my country as well, and I like the dubbed version much better than the original one, I still know the complete text and like to sing along because the version is so upbeat and lively. (Plus, I prefer a female singing voice over a male one, period.)ecchifan96 said:

I never said there weren't good ones, in fact i can't remember hating any of them at the moment. Oh! I forgot about that god-awful english opening for One Piece by 4kids! Anyway most of them were at least okay in my opinion and occasionally i hear an english opening i actually prefer to the japanese and yes, the One Piece openings by Funimation are among them :3
Can we handle that thing like the new star wars films and pretend it never existed?ecchifan96 said:

Used to listen to so many anime openings, but now I can barely remember any of them. I don't think I could have named my favorites out of all of them anyways.
What never existed? ;3 btw if you're qouting our posts you should be able to figure out how to do the hyper link, sorry but i'm terrible when it comes to explaining things X3ManutheBloodedge said:

Okay, maybe this will help. Here's what you do: <<type URL here|red text here>>
Thanks ecchifan.
Agos, what happend? Did you grow tired of them or did you music taste change? Does that mean that you watch less Anime this day? My anime consumption went back a little, but I still listen to the old opening-songs on my playlist.

You're welcome Manu ^_^ and if you're ever confused about formatting again just check the Dtext page.
Hmmm. I think it's about time i make a playlist as well, my favorites are getting crowded.

Hmm, I remember that there used to be some anime openings/endings that I really liked. But I can't recall them anymore.
Chances are, they were not THAT memorable? I think a lot of animes have very catchy songs, but that's not the same as being memento worthy.
Oh!! I remember now. Serial Experiments Lain's opening, Duvet. I've always loved that song, and I think the intro matched it quite well. It's been a long time since I last thought of it, though o.o'
Looking at my playlist, I do have a bunch of OP/ED soundtracks from several series I watched in the past, but I can't for the life of me remember any of the related videos, just the songs. So I guess those don't count...

Both openings of Ghost in the Shell, Allison and Lillia opening, Paranoia Agent's opening, Ghost Sweeper Mikami's opening, the opening to Loki Ragnarok and to Sakura Wars...probably more.
i agree...otaku_emmy said:

list of ops
No1 opening from the No1 anime: Nornir from mawaru penguindrum. This one "had me from hello".
The opening that got me listening out for more beautiful ops: PSI-Missing from to aru majutsu no index.
Only after hearing this did I, in my mind, start making a list of openings that I don't want to forget.
The first op I fell in love with: Higurashi no naku koro ni from the anime by the same name. Still gives me the creeps even to this day. This op had an effect on me like no other. Especially during the first five episodes of the series, when you don't know WTH is going on, this op gave me a short breather before the actual show knocked the air from my lungs again.
And, of course, its twin, Naraku No Hana, is simply a good song that I like listening to, when I have nothing else/better to do(e.g. study)
These two are simply masterpieces and deserve to be mentioned
euphoric field from ef a tale of memories
ebullient future from ef a tale of melodies
(although both series use different versions of these ops for different episodes)
IMO this is exactly what makes them so beautiful, because in these series the openings are more part of the show and contribute more strongly to the overall effect, than in different shows IMO.

Pure Snow (Himiko-den)
- The anime was meh, but they put A LOT of production value into the OP (especially since this was back in 1999). The song is bloody awesome and the animation for the most part matched it. Especially in the build up to and transition into the main chorus.
Morning Arch (A-Channel)
- The animation actually fits the song quite well, especially the opening beat and movement.
Platinum [Shirogane] Disco (Nisemonogatari - OP3)
NOTE: It seem to be really hard to find a plain version of the OP on Youtube for whatever reason, so bonus video in the meantime.- It's catchy and the animation is SHAFT surreal. (Why the hell does Tsukihi have so many damn char designs?)
Ren'ai Circulation (Bakemonogatari - OP4)
- I adore the song and Nadeko ^_~
Ha.Na.Ji. (Maria+Holic)
NOTE: This is the official Media Factory account, so there are ads.- Just because ^_~ For the mild surrealism and symbolism (plus it's a trap ^_^)
My Soul, Your Beats! (Angel Beats!)
- The anime itself I think could've been better (it felt rushed), but the OP is pretty good. Yui's version is pretty good as well.
Kimi No Mama De (Amagami SS - OP2)
NOTE: Pony Canyon was aggressive here, so only a 360p version has audio. All the HD version have the audio killed.- I've been an Azusa fan since the Amagami series. (She does the ED to a cople other series as well). This and Check my soul from Amagami SS+ are nice to listen to and watch. i Love (SS OP1) is all right as well, but my favorite is Kimi No Mama De overall of the three.
Super Affection (Carnival Phantasm)
- So full of energy and catchy to boot.
BONUS: Anata Ni Fit (Nendoroid Generations)
- Not an anime, but I'm a ClariS fan (ever since OreImo and Madoka). Plus it's animated Nendo's. You can't beat that. ^_~ (NANOHA! FATE!)
Okay now that the tread gets some unforeseen attention, another of my all-time favorites, and No. 2 on my playlist : After Dark, the seventh Bleach Opening.
This song and the animation conveyed the feelings from the Hueco Mundo arc greatly. He can't do it, he is against impossible odds, but he still goes on with a smile, because giving up is not an option.
Always puts me in a good mood and gives me hope. The best is Ichigos smile at the ending. Suzume!

I could hit myself for not adding this.
Blue. Not only is this colour pretty much self defining from my quirky personality linking to colours and elements (yes I do that with colours as well ^_^). It was used as an ending in cowboy bebop.
I have seen just a couple of episodes but the start and ending of it are just the best in the music for me, and ONLY the first 40 seconds and last bits. I really don't even like the rest of the music track.

I've been meaning to post this for a while now but I could never find the time. I hope I'm not too late, honestly I though this thread would last a lot longer than it did...
There are others I'd like to add but I think I'll just leave it at that for now. Anybody else want to add before this thread is truly forgotten?
Soramimi no Cake (Azumanga Daioh!)
It always makes me smile and gets me in the perfect mood to watch the show ^_^The World (Death Note)
The song speaks to me, it tells me of great ambition and the determination to make a change... despite that I can't say I like Light's methods for achieving this "bright and ideal world" of his -3- oh right, it also has some of the best visuals and music I've seen in any opening.Days (Eureka 7)
This opening makes me feel free...Rewrite (Fullmetal Alchemist)
I guess I like this simply because of the lyrics and music.Keroro Platoon Authorized! Passionate Learn to Draw Song!!(Keroro Gunso)
Peole who don't know the characters might not get these but they always makes me laugh X3Mabushikute (One Piece Movie 3)
Scenes from the crew's past TwTThere are others I'd like to add but I think I'll just leave it at that for now. Anybody else want to add before this thread is truly forgotten?
I almost locked it the other day, actually...

11 months agoAnime/Video-Game Openings and Endings: Your faves?
I'm a big jan of japanese music, so my playlists have more japanese than english songs. Most of these songs are used in some Animes, so I'm interested in the kind of Openings you favor. I really like good Openings because the unity with the pictures creates emotions that this song normally couldn't, and while good anime songs can stand for their own, I can get in a certain kind of mood just listening to that songs, something that I don't get with "normal" music.
For example, who doesn't feel excitement and love of adventure just listening to the first opening of One Piece? So which Anime Openings do you really like, which made an impact or are still your all-time favourite? Which brings out emotions no other music can? Are you really reading this ridiciulous amount of text? Are there ones to make you cry, ones to make you laugh? Are there songs you propably wouldn't listen to if they weren't used as an Opening? Please feel free and write...
(By Anime Openings, I normally mean the unity of picture and music, but of course you can concentrate of one of those.)
I will start with an Anime nearly no one knows, just to surprise you guys. It's the opening for the second season of Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor.
Here's the Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWJBgVxpFrE
The song used is called "Chase the Light!!" by "Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas". At first I didn't really liked it because of the screaming, but it got better with time, and now it is the most played song in my songlist. I really like the energy they convert, the emotions they convey with that Opening: The underdog, the eternal loser, the one at the bottom has nowhere to run but to the top, now matter how hard it can be, so because he has nowhere else to return to, he runs straight ahead. No matter how many times he falls, he continues to stand up again, that is all he has left after all. But still, while sending these feelings, the song manages to be optimistic and uplifting, and never fails to make me look forward, because no matter how bad your situation is, there is always the way ahead.
Well... that's how it work for me anyways. I guess this made so much impact on me because I really liked the Kaiji series, which is about a young man without job or future who is thrown in sudden financial peril and shows surprising talent for gambling when pressured. Really, really good and smart show without all the cliches once you get used to the art stile.
Wow, writing this is more embarrassing than I thought it would be. Well, doesn't matter, that's it for the beginning, I will write more if this thread against all odds actually leads somewhere.
