Ah Emmy, that's why my question was for an hypothetical case. I didn't say we have happiness-inducing drugs, I was just wondering what would be the consequences if we actually got there, and such became easily accessible to people.
My life philosophy. Or is it my philosophy about life philosophies?
About life philosophies... I think the most telling quote for my view on life is "it doesn't matter whether what you believe is right or wrong, true or false, but the impact it has on your life."
If a person believing a lie is enjoying their lives ten-folds better than a sour-soul who knows the truth then who, really, is the fool?
A lie might even be the term used by a cynic for a "truth that has not been proven yet", so in the end it is all relative. The same can be said about truths which are only so from the point of view of the believers in it. Can we even know absolute truth, considering our very inaccurate, deceptive shells of existence we perceive the world throughthrough (and if you don't buy that, please read "The Invisible Gorilla" for an eye-opening lecture on just how unreliable our own senses/memories are)?
I posit that people are free to find in their lives their own "purpose to life," and live through with that, if it makes them feel better about life than the alternative. If anything, the only thing that seems certain in life is death. If everything is but temporary, might as well enjoy the vacations while they last, no? There should be a phrase that goes "it is precious exactly because it is rare," and that's how I'd rather treat life.
@Bringerof_D: About privacy versus security: See, there is a relationship here, in my opinion. Privacy is required by the people who want to attack your safety, or else their plans will be stopped before coming into action. Thus, absolute security requires complete awareness of everybody's thoughts and actions.
