Lots of interesting stuff here. What happened to the bridge? And why is the area around the fissure still frozen while the same elevation in the background is green? Why is the village there or was it there before the fissure opened up?

Well, the answer to the first two questions is probably that the cold is coming from down and the fissure is getting bigger and bigger as time passes. The village doesn't seem to be "artificial" so it was probably there before it opened up and they refused to leave just because of the cold. If you pay attention really well, there is another village in the desert part of the image consisting of brown tents or wooden houses. I have a feeling that this picture is supposed to cover a much greater area than it seems to do, villages are usually not this close. But to be honest, they are also usually bigger, so who knows.
