That the artist is from the 1700's? The American flag has the 13 stars in a circle, like back then. Although the bottom of both piles suggest this is sort of a time-lapse abstract thingy.

I believe this represents the war of 1812.
Though, of course, the Maple Leaf didn't become the official flag of Canada until the second half of the 20th century. But nobody would recognize the Red Ensign.

The War of 1812 is the only significant conflict between the two, still, and you can count the number of major conflicts they haven't fought beside each other on one hand, with several fingers to spare.
America's pile of things is mostly guns and war machines, while Canada's pile is mostly outdoor equipment and animals. Hmm...
