That's depend on whether you got by canon or fanon. If you go by the latter, you have to decide with branch of that as well. Depending on the characterization interpretation you follow, this image is wholly justified.

If you have any real care for Touhou, you kinda HAVE to follow some of the fanon. Touhou is horridly fan-driven. It's up there with Vocaloid.
So yes, unless you follow some of the fanon characterizations, you lose out on a lot with fanworks of Touhou, like this image. Some fans do pair Sakuya and China up. Sakuya being a light Tsundere and China being the lovebaly ditz/airhead.
