I sure as heck am surprised that Nazi related art or swastikas are not banned. And a little history lesson, Bismarck was long dead before the Third Reich was established..

What history lesson's did you learn? http://www.ask.com/wiki/German_battleship_Bismarck?lang=en

As for the swastika, it has been in use since Neolithic times, long before Nazi Germany adopted it. http://www.ask.com/wiki/Swastika?lang=en
I believe someone else complained about art containing swastikas on Konachan before.

Cade had an excellent response to said complaint.

Point is, we all can't be hyper-sensitive about what happened back then. Plus, it's never intended to offend anyone in stuff like this. I mean, it's real life history.
The Bismarck was the flagship of the WWII German Navy, be weird for a picture of it to not show the Nazi flag.

A related point, it is interesting the difference in response of people to the Nazi flag and the Japanese flag given that both countries during wwII committed vast genocides, the Germans of Slavs and Jews, the Japanese of the Chinese and on many occupied islands referred to as the Asian Holocaust in some circles. In much of Europe, the Nazi flag is banned and Germany changed its flag, but Japan still flies the same flag without any stigma attached.

Lessons in which I learned that Hanna Reitsch, the only woman to wear an Iron Cross at that time, had neither cat-ears nor a uniform like that and wore her Cross on her chest. So much for YOUR history.

Seeing how this picture is picture is received makes it obvious that the swastika shows the Nazi swastika and no sign from "Neolithic times".
Also my first comment was based on the fact, that when clicking on the tag "Bismarck" there were no signs of this battleship but rather three additional pieces of art depicting girls with short skirts. This, and the aforementioned mistake with Hanna Reitsch, led me to the conclusion that the historically more relevant Otto von Bismarck was the original target of this tag. Sorry for confusing that.
That's anime for you! anthropomorphism is a general theme, so girls in short skirts are well, ships! kantai_collection

Welcome to the world that doesn't give a fuck about symbolism. And I'm being serious. Just because the USA and who knows what countries ban Swastika, doesn't mean other don't like it. Please do remember that Japan was allied with Germany. And Japan takes the Swastika in good ways.
To add to that, the artist is Chinese. If you want to partake in history talk with somebody related to the image, go do it with the artist. The source to the image is given.
Should I also welcome you to a world of Nazi fans? No? Guess not. Indoctrinated haters gonna hate.

Sorry for my subjective comments, but your comments rubbed me the wrong way.

Please be informed that this is an anthropomorphism of the Bismark battleship as stated by the artist in the image commentary on Pixiv, not Hanna Reitsch.

I certainly don't think that's true. I mean, organizations like the KKK and neo-Nazis are allowed to exist and operate without hindrance, and you can readily purchase products featuring swastikas, so they're not banned.

Of course, it's generally FROWNED upon to display such things. But hey, First Amendment.

Anyway, this person clearly did not understand that this girl is a ship. Glad we could all hammer the point home.
It is in this kind of moment that we have to say: *=! SIEG ZEON !=*
Gotta agree with Tensa; artistic expression should never be subjected to bias stemming from history or culture, or one's beliefs that were influenced due to said outcome of any event. Strictly speaking, the Nazis were incredibly resourceful and highly calculated, for much of the war, and displayed brilliance in the decade leading up to it while building the SS and party lines. Maniacal, but brilliant. They definitely have their place in art/history. As for anime, it's best to observe and let it soak in for a while before commenting outright about the theme. The forum is a good place to sort out various ponderings. In our world, anyone can be a catgirl, and a Nazi catgirl makes me feel all warm and fuzzy...
@Animeticklesmytoes That's completely wrong. Like most far-right administrations the nazis were terrible at economics and ran the economy into the ground. Part of the reason they wanted to start invading other countries so badly was because the economy was doing so badly they figured they had no other way to fix it.

And it when it came to war strategy they weren't too smart either. Hitler's decision to invade Russia and invade toward Britain at the same time can only be described as stupid. Maniacal, and stupid. They only place they have in history is to show how evil the right-wing can be in regards to nationalism and discrimination, and to also explain how to run economies into the ground/lose wars with moronic decisions.
