Kino's Journey is one of the only anime that ever made me feel genuinely emotionally uncomfortable. It's such a fantastic show.

Did you watch Shinsekai Yori? Another masterpiece that makes us feel uncomfortable nearly the whole show, yet it brings up many topics and questions magnificently.

I watched this show and loved it too, but it never made me feel uncomfortable. Quite the opposite in fact.

I found Kino_no_tabi to be philosophically stimulating, in the same way I did mushishi. The following anime, i found difficult to watch, in order of increasing emotional discomfort"
I also understand higurashi_no_naku_koro_ni and gunslinger_girl are rather uncomfortable to watch.

Mind ya'll, "discomfort" isn't necessarily a negative emotion. The show didn't make me feel BAD, just...affected. It was visceral.
