I'm guessing I should re-enable the Moe/Oreno.Imouto link in the Links entries now?
I don't know when FAQ is updated, but, I had upscaled some images to make them legit in the minimum resolution but they were taken down, I'm fine with it and understand the reasoning, but, it does not say anything about that in the FAQ: Uploads section, unless of course it's else where on the site, but maybe something about it should be put somewhere if it isn't already, just a thought.

They can easily be deleted on the quality grounds.
Upscales will be placed in a section about things to look out for. Generally speaking, upscaling is frowned upon since it deteriorates quality in most cases.

I just haven't gotten around to that section yet. The old Guidelines (the ones that got deleted during a system updates a couple months ago) actually did state not to upload Upscales, I think.
How do you improve your account record?
Easy way: Donate.

Harder way: Do productive activities on the site that gets the attention of a mod/admin.

If you're talking about the one warning given to you by me, improve the quality of your uploads to the point I'm confident you get the point/idea and can consistently do it on your own. I may then be inclined to delete that negative record. Just keep in mind unless you yourself are confidant in that task (and have a clue), you invite many other opportunities to gather more negative records.

I'm not trying to dissuade you. I'm just giving your the facts of the matter. Your last major deletion was 2 weeks ago (by me no less...), so you got your work cut out for yourself if you want to "earn" a positive record or have the Warning (which is a month old or so) removed.
Here's another question: How do you know when a picture is an upscale or a downscale?
Experience, mostly.

One of the easier things to try to spot in an upscale is an apparent blurriness or out-of-focus look to the image.

If the image contain lots of solid lines at any angles (other than straight up and straight across), you can look at them. Many posts at the original size will have nicely crisp, clean lines. Upscales will look blurry.

Other option: look for another version of the image for comparision. Though be careful or else you might wind up trying to upload a downscale.

I'd show you a sample here on Kona, but we delete upscales when we come across them.

Downscales are harder to pick out, but it's possible. We're a little more lenient on downscales as they tend to be less eye-cancerous looking than upscales.

I think one way I've been able to tell is to look at small details in an image and see if it looks more jagged than I would expect. Slight blurriness is also possible depending on the detail.
What are the rules about notes? I can't find it in any of the links, though I may have missed it.
Notes are for translations (hence "Add translation") or better identifying the characters when there is several in the image.

This does not mean every image can have character notes though:

  • post #101275 - the lack of faces makes it hard to tell who is who without them
  • post #22313 - the sheer number makes it time consuming to check each tag to work them all out for yourself
  • Occasionally the appearance of several minor or new characters will result in notes to facilitate identifying them in the future. Usually a Contributor/Privileged or Mod will add these though.
Okay, that's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure.
I dont know if this goes here... but... How can i Change my Profile Pic?

I want one and dont be that "stupid" girl... because I am a Boy >.<

Please Help
Someone apparently didn't like the profile pix chosen for me as a newbie. How can I change it? There is nothing explaining that under My Profile or FAQ or any of the Help screens. Thanks a lot and this is a great research base for anime-a-holics like me and my memberships- keimanzero
Option (A):
Use the forum search function to search "avatar" in the forum. This question has been answered NUMEROUS times. (I really need to shove it someplace for noticeable.)

Option (B):
Pay attention to the left side menu when looking at a post page. Those OPTIONS exist for a reason.
I couldn't find help with the tag subscription feature. I expected help from it in the cheat sheet part but all it has is tagging and searching, which doesn't work exactly like tag subscription.

For example, I want to have a houjuu_nue AND Breast AND Weapon subscription to make a sort of badass Tag subscription, but it always treat them as separate tags.

Also the avatar thing confused many new people(such as myself). I suggest making the Account Help (http://konachan.com/help/users) more useful. Currently, all it has is this:

Help: Accounts

There are three types of accounts: basic, privileged, and blocked.

See the signup page for more details.
And it could be more like this(although there could be a separate help for Profiles):
Help: Accounts

There are three types of accounts: basic, privileged, and blocked.

See the signup page for more details.

Avatar: To change you avatar, choose a background on Konachan and select "Set avatar" to bring up avatar options.

Tag Subscriptions: Easy way to track what you are looking for by tags.

Posts: Wallpaper uploads

Deleted Posts: Post that don't meet Konachan's standards. These will not be counted against you unless it becomes a persistent problem.

*Something about favorites and uploads here*
Another way to direct someone to help themselves figure out avatars is to have the Default avatar link to an example wallpaper or instructions on avatars.

Yet another way to help new people is to put ? mark hyperlinks on setting and profile options.
The Subscription feature actually might get killed at this point at my insistance. The job for it seems to run indefinitely (I have yet to see it "idle".) So it seems to be affecting KOnachan's performance a bit, here and there. I still need to talk to Shuugo about it, though he won't be always readily availabe for the next 3 months. We'll see about that.

Anyway, yes, the Tag Subs only use a OR search rather than giving you the opion of doing AND searches.

As for help: I haven't had much time, patience, willingness, or energy to update and expand the Help resources on the site. I know I should: if I was a new user, I would hope and expect to have more help available than what we have now. However, I'm not paid to do that and my real life comes first. Konachan is very much so secondary at this point since I need to focus on making sure I have a livelihood so I can still offer my spare time to Kona and Shuugo.

Other staff can expand the help, I suppose, but I'm sure many of them have the same priorities I just listed for myself. Writing up what is essentially an instruction manual from scratch isn't quick and easy ^_^; Esepcially when we as staff don't have proper information to base the instructions on. (I think I'm the most well-versed when to comes to how the engine and site work, though older staff might know things I don't.)

You do point out a few suggestions that are useful to try to implement, though. I'll try to pester Shuugo about them and see how hard it would be for him to make and keep those changes. (Or even have the code trunk adopt those changes. Keep in mind Kona is a branch of the Moe/Yande code/site with customizations.)
Etiquette Do-not-do guide:
Use of obviously explicit (rating:e) avatars.
  • Your avatar COULD originate FROM a rating:e post; the avatar itself MUST not depict what makes that post explicit.
  • Explicit avatars are changed immediately by the Mods to whatever image they wish at their discretion/whim.
  • Repeatedly using explicit avatars will get you banned.
  • Your avatar can be questionable, but only borderline safe-questionable. eg. cleavage.
These are the current guidelines concerning avatar content. Given the existence of the Safe .net site, I feel these guidelines are outdated, i.e. too loose.

As the content of avatars is visible on the safe site as well, I believe it's necessary that what's in the Avatar be safe too. As before, it can originate from an explicit image, but what's visible needs to be safe. Personally, I still think cleavage is fine, but close up pantyshots and the like I find questionable. Feel free to argue the point.

Regardless, I'd propose clearer language to cement this idea in the guidelines. An adjustment such as the following:

  • Use of obviously unsafe avatars.
    • Your avatar CAN originate from a questionable or explicit post, but the avatar itself must not depict what makes the post explicit or questionable. (Rule of thumb: if the avatar were rated seperately, would it be rated safe?)
    • There is some gray area with questionable avatars. Cleavage, for example, may be considered perfectly acceptable. Final decisions on avatars are left to the Mods.
    • Violating avatars will be changed immediately by the Mods to whatever image they wish at their discretion/whim.
    • Repeatedly using unsafe avatars will get you banned.
Or something along those lines. I understand it might not be all that favorable to some, but I'm simply trying to be as respectful to those who use the all ages site as possible.
I did write that WAY back before I even know about the .net domain for Konachan. However:

  • Your avatar can be questionable, but only borderline safe-questionable. eg. cleavage.
More or less covers the issue you bring up. I leave cleavage alone, but if I see panties, I change the avatar (usually I just shift the avatar or just crop out the panties. I don't outright kill the avatar for being Q, unlike what all staff does for E avatars.)

If people/user are smart, they'd err on the side of caution instead of purposely riding the line, so to speak.

It's either that or we mandate nothing but SAFE avatars to avoid the issue altogether in writing. As much as I like to give SOME leeway, I'm against trying to explain every little detail in the rules/policies. I'd rather stick to short and succint, if possible. Too much text and people start to TL;DR. (Not that they don't do that NOW, but that's another issue...)
I know it's been some time since any new questions were asked here, but I feel as though this is the most relevant forum pertaining to my issue.

I was wondering, is there any way I could appeal the negative score on my record? It was given to me quite a while ago (back when I didn't even have ten posts). It was also for a minuscule offence, that I can guarantee will not happen again. I have an absolutely clear understanding of the rules of the site now and I upload regularly without any issue.
Honestly, we generally don't touch records of any user unless something warrants it. I don't recall us really modifying any users' records just for the sake of it. At most, we've added other records to counter the mathematical score, but the actual records stay there. (e.g. You can have a Score of 0, but have 2 records on file, one positive, one negative. They cancel each other out to give the 0 score.) Well, there is the occasion were we need to delete mistakes (like double records), but that another issue.

My advice? If you really want that -1 to disappear, contribute to the site in a meaningful way to the point someone decides to add a positive record for you. Speaking of which, looking at your user history, you're getting there. Someone may decide to give you a record for prolific tagging, something the site needs to improve search results.

Really though, records don't mean much unless you're a repeat offender. Unfortunately, neutral records don't exist in the system for use. You seem to have gotten a warning, which are good cases for neutral records. But that's a different topic...
I see...so since there's nothing immediate that can be done, I guess I'll just keep doing what I'm doing then. Thanks for the answer!

Corrected, though I apparently never locked it, so you could've corrected it yourself and told me to lock the page after ^_^;
Aight, so this post was made solely to clarify that Stahn is not back to Konachan. I'm the one updating the FAQ but since Stahn was the last to reply to this thread, every time I update the FAQ it looks as if it was updated by him instead.
